As some of you know, I recently moved to Chicago from Washington, D.C. On a daily basis, I am shocked at the size of Chi-town, be it in number of residents or just the distance between two points. I moved to Ukranian Village, just off Wicker Park, aka Chicago's Williamsburg. One of the benefits that comes with living in such a large metropolis is the excellent concert selection. This autumn delivers a hell of a line-up. Below, see my picks for shows in the next two and a half months. Did I miss anything? 9/22 – [...]

Tiger High is Pick Three’s first all-band effort. As a group, the Memphis-based Tiger High (Jake Vest, Toby Vest, Greg Faison, and Greg Roberson), tell us three things that they all agree upon. Their first album, Myth Is This, on cassette only label American Grapefruit Tapes , was released in March 2011 and is available online . The Vest brothers also stay pretty busy recording bands at High/Low Studio. 1. Ty Segall - Goodbye Bread This is one of the few albums we put on before rehearsal [...]
The golden child of garage fuzz expands his horizons with a mature, highly listenable and ultimately timeless release. It was at the infamous Beerland in Austin during SXSW 2011 when I last saw Ty Segall live. Sweaty and cramped, the crowd ate up Segall's set; it was the musical equivalent of a stranded swimmer thrashing against the waves for dear life. He was a one man wrecking crew, sucking in the crowd with the kind of intensity one might expect from the perennially-labeled "next one" of garage punk. Though it's been said before,...

Filed under: Exclusive , New Releases , Q + A Drag City Prolific fuzz-rock youngster Ty Segall 's new album, 'Goodbye Bread,' drops today on Drag City, and while it retains his '60s garage-punk leanings, he's dared to slow down the tempo and take a stab at writing more defined lyrics. On the phone while driving near L.A. last week, Segall spoke to Spinner to explain some of his "freakout"-inspired new songs, the evils of [...]

Douglas Martin prefers sourdough bread above all. In my Pitchfork review of his cover of GG Allin’s “Don’t Talk to Me,” I referred to Ty Segall as “the heir apparent to the garage-punk throne.” Others have called him “the next Jay Reatard”. Due for a crossover. A major crossover. A Kurt Cobain-like crossover? C'mon. But no matter how you slice it, the vast majority of indie-rock fans have very high hopes for the 23-year-old guitar slinger. And for good reason. Ever since he started recording under his own name in 2008, he’s [...]
Ty Segall released a new song, You Make the Sun Fry , a slow number (especially by his standards) that will appear on the upcoming Goodbye Bread release next month. You Make The Sun Fry - Ty Segall Here's Ty playing Goodbye Bread : And here he is covering Red Kross :

Pitchfork met up with garage soloist Ty Segall last week, and now they've got their paws – ha! get it? – on the first official single off his upcoming album, Goodbye Bread . "You Make the Sun Fry" is infectiously gritty and magnetic, using the most of lazy vocals and every kind of distortion out there without losing the melody. Hear it above, and get the scoop on how Segall feels about his album that comes out June 21: Yeah, because I don't think I'm the best lyricist; it's [...]

Ty Segall is awesome. I just heard of him today and I'm already diggin his music SO MUCH. He's a multi-instrumentalist: a drummer and guitarist that's played in tons of bands including the Sic Alps and The Traditional Fools. He's based in the San Francisco Bay Area (which makes him even more awesome? I think so.) He plays a loud & energetic garage rock n' roll style (reminds me of Wavves in some ways) that is guaranteed to win your listening buds over. Check him out- his music definitely has a kick and supposedly he's an excellent musician live. One [...]

Tweet Ty Segall - "Goodbye Bread" (live solo version) It takes a lot of chutzpah to send out a press release with just an artist's name, an album title and a release date, but that's the luxury Drag City has when it's announcing the release of Ty Segall's new album, Goodbye Bread , out June 21st. As Pitchfork notes , last year The Tripwire recorded Segall performing the song "Goodbye Bread" in a bathroom . Take a [...]
Our favorite SF Wunderkind, Ty Segall, like some of his other great SF peers (John Dwyer anyone?!) is extremely prolific, has announced another LP. The follow up to the fucking incredible Melted, which will be out on Ty's new label, Drag City, on June 21st, and it's strangely titled Goodbye Bread . At some point [...]
I'm still listening to Ty Segall's Melted ; now he's already got a new one in the works? OK! Segall will release Goodbye Bread on June 21 on Drag City. Watch here as he performs the title track in a bathroom stall. Luckiest toilet in the world. Via Pitchfork Like The Days of Lore on Facebook . Follow TDoL on Twitter .
Ty Segall played alone in the Cake Shop bathroom. There is nothing more to say, really. Oh, besides that this is a brand new, frustratingly good song you wouldn't have heard anywhere else, unless of course you happen to sit outside Ty's apartment window late at night, in a tree, hoping for a glimpse of him in his undies or snippets of new songs. We admit to neither. Feel free to download his electro-acoustified version of "Goodbye Bread" after the bang bong bump. Ty Segall, "Goodbye Bread" [...]
