Video: All Points West MGMT The Clean Anything Could Happen Cover

There's a good chance the majority of MGMT's core audience know nothing about the Clean. This isn't their fault. They were barely alive during the seminal New Zealand band's heyday. Still, that didn't stop Andrew VanWyngarden and Ben Goldwasser from putting their spin on the group's classic 1981 calling card " Anything Could Happen " at All Points West. During their set at All Points West earlier this month, MGMT showed off their knowledge of first generation kiwi pop by covering the Clean's "Anything Could Happen," from the 1981 EP Boodle Boodle Boodle . MGMT's version sticks fairly close to the original, although the vocals are a bit more melodic than David Kilgour's monotone delivery. This is a sure sign the MGMT kids (sorry) are excited for the Clean's first album in eight years, Mr. Pop , which is out via Merge on September 8.
