So Kanye West performed Heartless on the last episode of American Idol and gave the contestants some advice on how to sing. I guess the formula goes something like this: tons of hours of production in the studio + digitally corrected voice = multi platinum album. I love Kanye but I'm sorry to say he sounded awful in this performance.

Was I supposed to know this was happening? Kanye West has to be one of the worst singers ever to guest on American Idol. Not that he's bad , per se, but I mean, the guy has to use autotune to sing. Can't they go get Burt Bacharach or someone again? The running tally is presently at three Kanye West posts in a row. Will someone else do something please?!

Last night we got to kick the first two American Idol hopefuls to the curb. Which is a relief because this season is dreadful. Kanye and his ego danced on top of the judges table. The judges were noticeably absent. Which was too bad. Kara and Kanye could have compared groundlessly inflated egos while Simon rolled his eyes and rubbed Paula's thigh. The show started with a lip synched Jackson 5 dedication that was beyond corny. Scott MacIntyre was left without his smiley-seeing eye guy. [...]

Kanye West dropped by American Idol to "sing" "Heartless" last night because, you know, dude's a singer now, and he wants people to take him seriously as such. It would be unthinkable that back when he was doing songs like "Through the Wire" that he'd be on American Idol selling an album where he sings through an Auto-Tuner. Kanye's performance was kind of breathless (literally--Kanye seemed out of breath) and he was dressed like the guy that changed my tires yesterday. President of the Lollipop Guild Ryan Seacrest seems pretty excited about having West around, but then again, [...]

As Simon Cowell likes to say, American Idol "is a singing competition." It's a show where four judges who are varying degrees of witty, clueless, lucid, and the dawg pore over the minute inflections in tune and tone of thousands of contestants' voices in an attempt to find the one and only American Idol. Until next year, when this process that speaks to a nation forever worshipping prefabricated idols who glide by on superficial sheen but little pathos gets a reboot. i'm sure you know how much i like kanye --- but doesn't it seem a little weird to see him performing on american idol? shouldn't they be singing nickleback songs or something? i think he's raised the bar for the show considerably, even if you don't think he can sing.
