Ci sono pochi generi musicali più lontani dall'indie della musica latino-americana; quindi cosa c'è di più indie del mettere su un'orchestra che si dedica a rifare celebri pezzi indie in chiave salsa? Questa pare essere la missione della WIlliamsburg Salsa Orchestra capitanata dal percussionista Gianni Mano, che fa un buon lavoro nel ricontestualizzare degli indie-anthem in uno dei sound che personalmente trovo tra i più detestabili, riuscendo a mettere in piedi versioni, se non belle, quantomeno divertenti. You know Animal Collective is PSYCHED on this cover—a lot of their music has the psychic underpinnings of the Afro-Cuban son (or maybe we're just projecting), and "My Girls" was essentially BORN to be a salsa cover. This also may be the first time we have actually heard the real-life enunciated lyrics. How did the Williamsburg Salsa Band figure out words that we aren't even positive Animal Collective knows? Hopefully they just made some stuff up like a Mad Lib!
