Not much to say, Lesleh is cranky today. Ellie Goulding - Lights (Bassnectar Remix) Coyote Kisses - Coyote Anthem (Hard RMX) Actually, Coyote Kisses reminds me of a mix of Daft Punk and that Carl Sagan youtube video. I didn't get the transmitted memo from deep space in time , so pardon if this is old news. Yesterday, November 6, a bunch of nerds astronomy enthusiasts gathered at Broward College in Florida to celebrate the second annual Carl Sagan Day , which featured guest speakers (including James "The Amazing" Randi), COSMOS screenings, magic shows, and telescope workshops (?) for all to enjoy. Sagan, who died in 1996, would would have celebrated his 76th birthday this Tuesday. Now, please enjoy this musical tribute to the man who could really rock [...]

I wonder if the Symphony of Science guys had to invent the universe before they could come up with this song. (via) Symphony of Science: A Glorious Dawn.mp3 (Cherimoya Einn remaster)

Earlier today, the Swedish siblings that make up the Knife released a new song called "the Colouring of Pigeons," and it has already become quite a sensation. It is 11 minutes long, and many people are referring to it as an opus already. The song stems from an opera project that the Knife are doing and planning on releasing at the beginning of March. The opera is based off of Darwin's the Origin of Species and everything is supposed to reflect the grand impact and scale of Darwin's work. The Knife apparently went to [...]

- "A Glorious Dawn" - Carl Sagan feat. Stephen Hawking. Maybe worth a chuckle or two, and a fist-bump for cleverness, John Boswell's AutoTuned Sagan delivers easily my hook of the year. That the tune lands in the existential sci-fi angst/abstraction sweet spot, well, that's just cosmic gravy: - America: A History in Verse by Edward Sanders (Blake Route Press). An omnibus CD containing the first five (of nine) volumes of the Fugs' co-founder's' sweeping project, which reads like a warmer and more playful version of Howard Zinn's [...]

Of course, the biggest video of last week tops our list. It's the fast tracking Vampire Weekend Cousins video. If you remember, we posted the MP3 track last week and got a Web Sheriff notice which caused our file service to temporarily remove our public access. We also listed the track list for their new album Contra due January 12th on that post here . [...]

Have you seen the video for this? I thought it was pretty cool. I wasn't paying attention when I ordered the 7 inch from Third Man Records so I was happy to see it was the same song. Yet another reason why I enjoy this label. There is/was a "Cosmos Colored Vinyl" of which 150 copies were pressed and 50 randomly inserted into mail orders! I didn't get one. The B side is a copy of the etching on the Voyager Golden Record It's pretty basic. Carl Sagan+Stephen Hawking\Autotune=2 or wait... [...]

The Dead Weather @ Home Sweet Home in July ( more by Ryan Muir ) The Dead Weather will be performing at Music Hall of Williamsburg tonight (11/17) with an opening set by Ecstatic Peace-signed Australians Violent Soho . To go with that, some other Jack White news... Jack White will be working with "Queen of Rockabilly" Wanda Jackson . The pairing sounds similar to what White did with Loretta [...]
I am in a strange mood today. Maybe it is cause I have been buried underneath the stress of a 20 page Grad School paper. Anyways... the theme of this post is space. Don't over think it kids. Video above is a remix of "A Glorious Dawn" featuring Carl Sagan and Stephen Hawking. It [...]

John Boswell ft. Carl Sagan & Stephen Hawking ~ " A Glorious Dawn " I saw this video last week and was going to post it before my computer crashed. I forgot about it until they played the song on Morning Becomes Eclectic this morning so I am posting it now. Here's my simile: The video above is to science/space as the video below is to Disney movies:
[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="469" caption="Carl Sagan - Turtleneck Enthusiast"][/caption] Today marks what would be the 75th birthday of Carl Sagan, noted astronomer, agnostic, exobiologist, and turtleneck enthusiast. He's perhaps most popularly recognized as the host of the 1980's PBS series Cosmos, where he explored the incomprehensible complexities of the universe with a child's ...
Time to get your Sunday on! Dirty Projectors - Stillness Is The Move -- definitely not the video I would have pictured for this song...but somehow it makes sense Grizzly Bear - Ready, Able The xx - Islands -- guess what, there are a lot of X's in this video Carl Sagan - A ...
Simplemente increíble remix de dos grandes divulgadores de la ciencia Carl Sagan y la super estrella Stephen Hawkings quienes nos presentan el tema "A Glorious Dawn" nada menos remixeado por el Cosmos ¿quien más? vía living ears
I don't know who had this idea but it is really incredible. The music is excellent and the words are beautiful. They paint a very brilliant image of sunrise from outer space. Carl Sagan & Stephen Hawking - Glorious Dawn (Cosmos Remixed)
