In the first of two giant performances from last night, Tom Waits performed the standout track from last year's Bad As Me , "Chicago." Full of jittery pulsations and the classic Tom snarl, it's the scratchy jolt you can only expect of him. Check it out below.

In the madness that was late night TV in the US last night you might of missed Tom Waits performing on the Late Show with David Letterman . He performed his track "Chicago" which features on his Bad as Me release at the back end of last year. Check out the performance including a full backing band at the top of the page.

Tom Waits makes his first TV appearance since the release of Bad As Me last October. Playing the first cut from the album, "Chicago," the band features his son, Casey, on drums, Larry Taylor on bass, David Hidalgo on guitar, keyboardist Augie Meyers, and guitarist Big Bill Morganfield (the son of late blues legend Muddy Waters). We've been waiting a long time to see Tom Waits perform tracks from last year's Bad as Me on late night television - he bypassed the marketing technique, until now. Waits, with a full band that included his son and Los Lobos' guitarist David Hidalgo, appeared on Letterman last night, offering an extended rendition of "Chicago". Check out the video below, and wonder in amusement at how many Americans had no idea what they were in for as the rough-voiced legend walked onto the screen.

Tom Waits ' visits to David Letterman's late night TV show date back nearly 30 years and have been numerous.
